How did we get there?
Sometimes you look for a project and can’t find it, sometimes you are looked for by someone and - found.
In short: IKS = school with a musical focus; music » big bands » loud rehearsals » concerned people. All clear?
OK. The school administration was looking for interested students with previous knowledge. So two band members and the writer threw themselves into the extensive research and before we knew it, we were sent to “Jugend forscht heaven”. We completely underestimated two factors:
- The scope - let’s say lax - it became very, very extensive
- Our chances. Initially completely negated by us - later turned out to be better than average.
In any case, we took the project to a more professional level, came up with the title: Excuse me? Do musicians really hear worse?
and researched as much as we could, in other words: We audiometrically tested more than 130 people and developed complex questionnaires, which we evaluated using an SQL database.
At this point: “Thank you very much, Mr. Dipl. Ing. Tech, without you and the Bundeswehr’s Military Technical Office 91 this would not have been possible!”
Thanks also to Prof. Dr. Hofmann of the Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences, who helped us with measuring devices.
Here and now: Many thanks to all the helpful spirits, the test subjects, students, musicians, teachers and a very special thank you to Ms. Sieben, Mr. Gath, Mr. Pisch and the others who were and are a reliable backbone for us and whose honest advice we greatly appreciate. And not to forget, when the necessary dosimeter could only be seen on catalog pages due to a lack of financial strength, the IKS support association bought it without further ado, a great achievement!
To all those who didn’t believe in us: “We’re sorry to disappoint you!”
